Stargate: Universe

Starcraft Stargate Universe is probably the one that many won't remember. It came out with two seasons right around the last spark of the Stargate series was dying in 2009. And I must say this: The tone of the series is completely different than Stargate: SG1 or Stargate: Atlantis (even though the elements and characters still show up). You don't get a tight-knit group of people who signed up for the adventure. You get a rag-team of random people who are forced to tag along for the ride. If you like Battlestar Galactica, you would love this series. You have a bunch of people who are scared and whine about their situation. Then you have a couple military members and scientists that keep everything together. You think the situation would improve... and then things just get worse. For the first few episodes, the show was boring to watch. I was mad about everything. I hated the characters and I hated watching them argue with each other. Then for one brief moment in ...

Stargate SG-1 Factions

Another aspect I must include is the little things that tie Stargate: SG-1 with Stargate: Atlantis. Some people suggest that you watch them as they originally aired with Seasons 8-10 airing in conjunction with Seasons 1-3. Some have even suggested to watch each season in sequence with Season 8, Season 1, Season 9, Season 2, Season 10, and Season 3. I personally feel this wasn't necessary. There are very few tie-ins between the two series. One could argue that you should be familiar with certain characters and setting before watching Stargate: Atlantis. I could also make a parallel argument that it is necessary to understand certain races of Star Trek: The Next Generation by watching Star Trek: The Original Series. However, the main plot and setting is completely different. Neither the conflict with the system lords or the Ori show up in Stargate: Atlantis. In fact, only one episode brings in a Gao'uld. What I did notice was little things that foreshadowed the seri...

Stargate: SG-1 Themes

Another thing I was looking out for in the series was key moments that changed the rest of the series. What I mean by that is... what thing.... how should I put this? What essentially changed the dynamic of the series? Well, quite a bit actually. Enemies Apothas: S1E1 Introduction S2E18 Dies S3E13 Discovered Alive S5E1 Assumed Dead Replicators: S3E13 Introduction S5E19 Android Mother S5E22 Asgard Attacked S6E12 Humanoid Evolution S8E1 Fifth Escaped S8E2 ARP Gun Created, Carter Formed S8E11 Fifth Dies; Carter Leads S8E17 Replicators Killed Anubis: S5E9 Sends Envoy Tenith S515 Sends Osiris S517 Sends Asteroid S5E22 Attacks Thor S7E1 Attacks Jonas S8E18 Eternally Preoccupied Baal S5E15 Introduction S6E6 Baal Tortures Jack S9E7 Copies Himself Continuum Dies Osiris S4E13 Introduction S515 Shows up at Summit S7E15 Goa'uld Removed Family Rya'C (Teal'C Son) S1E11 Stopped from being a host S2E8 Lives with new Father; Brainwashed S6E1 Mother Dies S7E4 Saved from Death ...

Stargate: SG-1 Episodes

Wondering what specific episodes I remembered from my childhood? Let's play the memory game! S1E11 "Bloodlines" - Teal'C goes after his family and rediscovers his awesome mentor. S1E13 "Hathor" - This episode is memorable for how bad it was. A Goa'uld seduces all the men to do her bidding and it is up to the females to fight back. S1E18 "Tin Man" Robot duplicates of SG1 team. Must I say more? S2E4 "The Gamekeeper" - SG1 stuck in a Virtual Reality. S2E5 "Need" - Rejuvanation can be a drug. Makes this episode awkward to watch. S2E7 "Message in a Bottle" - Jack gets spiked by an artifact. Definitely a tense episode as the ultra-violet light spreads. S2E14 "Touchstone" - Second Stargate up and running? Impossible they say. S2E15 "The Fifth Race" - Alien language gets downloaded into Jack's brain. Things get strange. S2E17 "Holiday" - Body switch episode. S2E18 "Serpent's So...

Stargate: SG-1 Seasons

It might be kind of odd going from Stargate: Atlantis back to Stargate: SG1, but I felt it necessary. I really wanted to know what sort of connection there was between the two series. That, and I also wanted to know how the series held up. This time around I'm going to do a little summary of each season and what sort of changes in direction they took for better or for worse. I'm also going to highlight an episode or two that held up over the others. On the side, I'll add a notation to how many episodes I actually remember. So let's get started... Season 1: If Stargate: Atlantis can be likened to a combination of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager, then Stargate: SG1 is like a combination of Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: The Next Generation. The first season is all about the discovery of alien worlds and their culture. You can tell their budget starts small with all of the cheap props in the first few episodes. They establish...

Stargate: Atlantis

Stargate Atlantis is a very good show. Just from the first three seasons, they slowly introduce new concepts that build on each other. I was going to write out a review on how they do so - from learning about the Ancients to the Wraith - until I realized that pretty much every episode does that in one way or another. It seems like they explore every option I could physically think up on my own. Then I thought that maybe I should write a review similar to my Star Trek reviews. I mean, GIF seemed to work really well on pinpointing which episodes were the best. However, this is my first time watching the series. It is all new to me. I can't exactly figure out which ones are better over others. So instead, I'm going to try a little Mystery Science Theater 3000. I'm going to pick out the worst episodes to review and explain why they are bad. You can tell where the crew really planned out seasons 1 and 2. Then season 3 was sort of the cool expansion. I'd like to...
