Kirby Spin-Off Series

Kirby Premise: For a Kirby game not to be classified in the main series, it must somehow detract from the standard formula. Many of these aren't developed as full-fledged adventure games and instead are marketed as short mini-games you can play on the side. Unlike the 4 - 10 Hours I spend on your typical Kirby game, these type of games might have only held my attention for one hour . However, there are certain "full game" types that are simply designed differently, perhaps in a different art-style and/or without core mechanics (option to copy abilities for example). For the purpose of my review, I have divided the two archetypes accordingly by listing them as mini-games and adventure games below. Rating System 1/5 - not worth spending your money on; 2/5 - mostly annoying but still has some redeeming qualities; 3/5 - Fun experience with some trouble; 4/5 - Great time and quite memorable; 5/5 - Perfect in every way. Kirby Main Series

Kirby Premise: Do you know Kirby ? Have you played any of the Kirby games? A lot of people might say "Well yeah, I played Kirby in Super Smash Brothers . He's the one that can fly around and suck people in to steal their power." If I had to make a response to that, I would have to say that is pretty much all the little pink fluff ball is about. But did you know that there has been a release of more than 30 Kirby games ? If you counted every single game the lovable squish-ball was in, including the re-releases, you would come to around 75 games in total. I'm sad to say that many of the spin-off games are merely mini-games reskinned with a outer layer of Kirby merchandising. However, for all intents and purposes of this review, I only examined some of the major titles. I am also excluding any recent titles that have been released on the Nintendo Switch . Kirby Format: The synopsis of every game remains pretty much the same throughout the whole seri...

Yakuza Series Element Comparisons

Premise: With the Yakuza series completed, I decided to take a second look at each of the games at their own merit. For example, some games excelled at the amount of mini-games contained while others had a better story. I also wanted to examine how each game modified a certain system, re-watch the important cutscenes, and listen more carefully to their music. Then, I would rate them accordingly to which did it better in the series. I've compiled three different categories: content, mini-games, and characters. There are many other different categories I could do, including the far-reaching battle mechanics in each game, but it doesn't really interest me at this moment. Content will cover the main points of the game, substories, and length of gameplay. Mini-games will cover fun activities that were carried over from one game to the next. Characters will list which had the best protagonists, antagonists, and supporting cast. The results at the top will include the n...

Game Dash Reviews

50-Game Dash Results Prelude: It has been a wild ride deliberating and playing through 50 games these past few months. Out of all the games selected, there was only a handful of "big" games: Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Control, Detroit: Become Human, Frostpunk, and Prey . I voted against buying I am Dead and Crypt of the NecroDancer . There was only one game that couldn't start: The Swapper . Although I made my fifth attempt at playing the game, Dust: An Elysian Tail was dropped before making any insightful progress in the game. I would have also liked to play a little further in Okami , but the old game had its fair share of problems - watching a 14-minute introduction on a half-resolution screen without being given access to a controller were all pretty painful reasons. The games I played instead were: Hob, Cloudpunk, Rime, Minit, and Night in the Woods. The following games are  rated from best to worst which was really hard to do with so many decent games. T...

Old Game Ratings

Down below are a list of games that were reviewed between September 2016 and May 2020. The ratings are based on a personal basis. Those that receive A rating are usually considered fun, exceptional, and clearly shows passion from the amount of content the developer added to the game. Those that receive a B rating are the ones that leave a satisfactory experience and the ones where the it is clear the developer have at minimum completed a game that fits their vision. Those with a C rating usually leave me with a frustrating experience, contain a fair sum of technical issues, or the developers implemented features that were quite annoying . They are in order from best to worst game. The italicized portions are taken during Game Month . There are a couple games included that do not have a proper review and some of the bigger games were excluded from the list. A Hollow Knight Outer Wilds Stardew Valley Octopath Traveler Outer Worlds Celeste Children of Morta This War of Mine Dead Cells Re...
