Godzilla Ratings
Godzilla Rating
Scoring: Down below is a list of all 48 movies and television series with some kind of correlation to the Godzilla brand. These were watched between the beginning of December 2023 and near the end of January 2024. For convenience, only the Japanese rating is listed if there was an American version.
- 8/10 Godzilla: King of Monsters (2019) - the family might be a mess but it barely registers when the monsters and their fights are so well-designed.
- 8/10 Godzilla (2014) - the theatrics of watching Godzilla rise after two new monsters appear is pretty interesting to watch even though the characters aren't that interesting
- 8/10 Godzilla: Final Wars (2004) - everything is over-the-top from its characters doing things not humanly possible, story with the aliens at a crazy level, and monsters completely redesigned.
- 7/10 Destroy All Monsters (1968) - it is great to see all the monsters take action across the globe and finding out how the aliens are doing it is rather interesting.
- 7/10 Godzilla (1954) - focused on devastation and helplessness as the military tries everything in a very intellectual manner until a scientist uses a deadly device that actually kills him.
- 7/10 Mothra vs Godzilla (1964) - capitalism proves to be both comedic and wrong in this film while you watch not only a giant moth do battle but a couple of caterpillars as well
- 7/10 Mothra (1961) - the focus of the film might weigh too heavy on capitalism but there is enough new and passionate model builds that distinguishes the film from others
- 7/10 Kong: Skull Island (2017) - The theatrics of an ambitious team slowly get torn apart on an island is fun to watch when you realize that none of them will make it out alive.
- 7/10 All-Out Attack (2001) - makes a completely new spin on sharing the mythology of three legendary good monsters fighting one bad one with some clever new military tools
- 7/10 Godzilla vs Kong (2021) - Watching Kong travel through his old camping grounds underground takes awhile but sneaking in Mechagodzilla in the end is a treat.
- 6/10 Rodan (1956) - the added horror and mystery of the events in the setting makes the reveal of the monsters much better when they make an appearance
- 6/10 Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (2023) - there are some glorious shots of various monsters and an extension of the lore but there is way too much drama that drags the series along
- 6/10 Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II (1993) - the designs of the monsters, toys, and story are all pretty decent but the new confusing ending is very noticeable
- 6/10 Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla (2002) - highlighting the new protagonist goes way too long but their toys are great to see in action.
- 6/10 Tokyo S.O.S. (2003) - its great to see its Mothra cameo and the insides of Mechagodzilla but there isn't much new when it comes to the monster fights.
- 6/10 Shin Godzilla (2016) - there is a bit of comedy watching how incompetent the military can be as they sit by and watch what is essentially a moving boulder destroy their town
- 6/10 Godzilla 2 (1955) - the speed of battles were negatively increased and fights were rather rough but the military does some interesting tactics to defeat him
- 6/10 Godzilla vs Mothra (1992) - the updated models of the monsters are a treat to see and there are some extended battles with some added lore but the story is rather dull
- 6/10 Return of Godzilla (1984) - there are some tense moments with the monster that isn't Godzilla and a cool hovercraft but the overall story elements drag it down
- 6/10 Singular Point Godzilla (2021) - several elements from the Godzilla series, including Jet Jaguar, appear in some form as you trudge through several science lessons on time travel
- 5/10 Godzilla: Series (1998) - watching the team figure out what type of monster they are facing each week is a treat but nothing evolves from the formula.
- 5/10 Son of Godzilla (1967) - the film might be a bit goofy but the story behind the scientists is good enough to hold together when you see the monsters on the island.
- 5/10 Godzilla vs Spacegodzilla (1994) - it might be cool to watch but its hard to believe the original can defeat one that can fly, create crystals, and shoot electricity.
- 5/10 Skull Island (2023) - the series slowly grows on you when you discover all the moving pieces but it leaves you hanging after the first season.
- 5/10 Astragon (1963) - there are a lot of cool concepts from the submarine, underwater kingdom, and giant monster but the tape that holds it together is rather flimsy
- 5/10 Godzilla vs Biollante (1989) - the concept of a plant monster that completely falls apart when Godzilla appears is interesting but watching the military save the day isn't so much
- 5/10 King Kong vs Godzilla (1962) - the military has some smart plays but how they move King Kong around and his ability to gain lightning powers is a bit too much for the film
- 5/10 Frankenstein vs Baragon (1965) - there's something interesting with
how the scientists try to dissuade the government from killing an
ever-growing human
- 5/10 Godzilla 2000 (1999) - the story takes awhile to get to the point where an alien spaceship that looks like a rock takes over a building and evolves to fight Godzilla.
- 5/10 Godzilla vs Megaguirus (2000) - Godzilla fighting a bug swarm and then their queen isn't that great but there are some nice shots of the team playing with their black hole gun and toys.
- 5/10 Godzilla vs Hedorah (1971) - you will question your sanity as you watch this psychological horror of a smog monster attacking the city.
- 4/10 Godzilla (1998) - While there are some nice shots of Godzilla doing things you normally wouldn't see in his new agile form, it is clearly marketed towards the younger crowd
- 4/10 Invasion of Astro-Monster (1964) - the alien schemes are too complicated and fall apart if you think about the ridiculous events that happen throughout the film
- 4/10 Godzilla vs King Ghidorah (1991) - the movie is a hodgepodge of fancy scenes that makes your head hurt thinking too much about how their time travel plan works
- 4/10 Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla (1974) - the story is rather interesting but the fights between the monsters aren't great enough to watch
- 3/10 Ebirah (1966) - the story is filled with so many ridiculous and coincidental moments that it detracts from what could have been an interesting story about a sea monster
- 3/10 Ghidorah (1964) - watching the monsters talk among themselves is pretty odd and seeing them fight a new monster more powerful than them with poor animations is worse
- 3/10 Godzilla vs Gigan (1972) - very hard to understand the setting when you learn more about the aliens plan to take over the world from a theme park.
- 3/10 Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995) - there are some added concepts of seeing Godzilla meltdown and grown-up Godzilla Junior but the story behind the new monster is dull
- 3/10 Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle (2018) - the philosophical question of whether someone gives up their humanity to become part machine is the only redeeming quality here
- 3/10 Terror of Mechagodzilla (1975) - the new monster isn't enough to improve on the boring ones we've seen fight before and the story behind the scientist pairing with aliens isn't that great.
- 2/10 Godzilla vs Megalon (1973) - there is something wrong when most of the episode is watching people chase each other in cars and watching an AI robot grow huge to fight a bug
- 2/10 Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters (2017) - the movie takes way too long to establish the setting only to realize that the monster they defeated wasn't the real Godzilla.
- 2/10 Space Amoeba (1970) - the designs and story behind the monsters is very generic with very little substance to keep it together.
- 2/10 All Monsters Attack (1969) - you might be confused when you discover the only monsters are from a kid's imagination, direct clips from other movies, as he fights some bad guys.
- 2/10 The Mysterians (1957) - the quality of this film is terrible with a robot made out of cardboard boxes, aliens with bike helmets, and cinematography painted on.
- 2/10 King Kong Escapes (1967) - there is a bit of disconnect when this cartoon-based movie tries to play things out like you already know everything
- 1/10 Godzilla: The Planet Eater (2018) - the movie drags way too long when going through a philosophical debate through the hero's depressed mind only to see him die at the end.
